Environmentalists: Ledvice power plant in the Teplice region of Czechia fails to meet mercury emissions limit

According to environmentalists, the Ledvice lignite-fired power plant in the Teplice region still fails to meet the limit for mercury emissions into the air. The Ústí nad Labem Regional Authority has now decided to extend its exemption. Environmental organizations, together with the Frank Bold expert group, secured a limit on the exemption to one year, until June 2026, rather than the end of next year, as requested by the operator. They informed the Czech News Agency (ČTK) today.

The power plant is owned by ČEZ. ČEZ spokesperson Ota Schnepp told ČTK that the company had been working on reducing mercury emissions from unit 6 for a long time and with great intensity. According to him, the available technologies suitable for the unit’s boiler had to be taken into account.
