Natural gas price

The natural gas price, or wholesale natural gas price, is set on the exchange. In the European Union, the reference price is the natural gas price at the virtual TTF trading hub, specifically the contract delivered next month. The gas price on the exchange is expressed in EUR/MWh (euro per megawatt-hour). One MWh of natural gas corresponds to approximately 95 m3 (cubic metres) of natural gas (conversely, 1000 m3 of natural gas is about 10.5 MWh).

The current natural gas price shown below is the wholesale price traded at the TTF hub. It is the price of the contract for next month, which is the most liquid and best reflects the current value of natural gas in the European Union.

The average daily gas price in 2026 for the reference contract at the TTF hub is 43.06 EUR/MWh (1,040 CZK/MWh).

Questions and answers

Q

What is the current natural gas price on the exchange?

A

The current natural gas price on the exchange is 42.465 EUR/MWh (1,026 CZK/MWh) (as of 16. 6. 2026). This is the price at the TTF trading hub for delivery next month, which is considered the reference price in Europe. The contract delivered next year in the Czech Republic is also relevant for the Czech Republic; it currently has a price of 37.815 EUR/MWh (913 CZK/MWh).

Q

How will the natural gas price develop?

A

The natural gas price outlook can be estimated from the price of forward (futures) contracts. The futures price of natural gas delivered in 2027 is 37.815 EUR/MWh (913 CZK/MWh) and in 2028 it is 30.312 EUR/MWh (732 CZK/MWh). Based on futures prices, gas prices therefore appear set to be substantially lower.

Q

What determines the wholesale natural gas price?

A

The natural gas price on the exchange is affected by many factors — besides supply and demand, it is influenced by the season and expected temperature, since gas consumption depends on heating demand. The amount of gas held in underground storage is also crucial for the gas price.

Q

How many cubic metres (m3) is 1 MWh of gas?

A

The natural gas price is quoted in MWh (in Europe in EUR/MWh), not as a price per m3 (cubic metre). One MWh of natural gas is approximately 94.8 m3 of natural gas. Conversely, 1000 m3 of natural gas corresponds to about 10.5 MWh of natural gas.
