Gas prices on the European market fall back below 40 euros per megawatt-hour

The wholesale price of gas on the European market fell below 40 euros (around CZK 1,000) per megawatt-hour (MWh) for the first time this year today. Reuters reported the news. The fall in gas prices is part of a broader decline across energy markets, which have recently come under pressure amid concerns about the negative impact of US President Donald Trump's tariff policy on economic growth.
At around 16:30 CET, the price of the benchmark gas futures contract for delivery next month at the Title Transfer Facility (TTF), a virtual trading hub in the Netherlands, was down more than six percent, trading near 39 euros per MWh.
At the beginning of this week, the price climbed to around 47 euros per MWh amid uncertainty over a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine and strong demand. Tensions in the gas market intensified last Friday after US President Donald Trump clashed with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.
