KHNP discusses involvement in Dukovany construction with 150 Czech companies

About 150 Czech companies took part in individual talks last week with Korean company KHNP about their possible involvement in the construction of new nuclear units at Dukovany. The talks focused in particular on the conditions for tenders, the schedule and the organization of the entire construction project. KHNP said this in a statement. The Korean company previously pledged that Czech companies would take part in about 60 percent of the project.
In recent days, companies from various sectors in Czechia interested in taking part in upcoming tenders to supply the construction of the nuclear units held talks with KHNP. According to the Korean company, the consultations focused mainly on general information about the project, individual tender packages for power plant equipment, supplier registration and evaluation, construction, engineering and design issues, and other aspects of the projects. Representatives of other Korean companies involved in the projects, including Daewoo, Doosan and KEPCO E&C, also took part in the talks alongside KHNP.
A monthly review meeting between senior managers from Dukovany II Power Plant (EDU II) and KHNP has also begun in Seoul, South Korea, where the companies plan to analyze the project’s progress to date. The review meeting includes checking the schedule, discussing costs and a specific public procurement plan. According to the Korean company, the project teams will also discuss implementation plans for the next phase of the project, technologies, their licensing and permitting processes.

EDU II is represented at the monthly meeting by a 12-member team led by CEO Petr Závodský and Director of Quality and Safety Jiří Füzér. This is the first such review meeting
“From the very beginning of the project, we want to make sure that everything is proceeding according to plan. Our task is to deliver the power plant to the quality standards and by the deadline we have committed to. That is why these in-person talks and detailed reviews of individual project items together with the project owner, EDU II, are absolutely essential for us,” said project director Harry Chang.
KHNP won the Czech nuclear tender last year. The first unit at Dukovany is expected to be completed in 2036. The construction of new nuclear units is set to be the largest contract in Czechia. At current prices, the cost of the currently preferred plan to build two reactors at Dukovany amounts to 407 billion koruna.
