Up to 400 thousand for a green roof or heat pump. Prague launches new subsidy scheme

Prague residents can apply from the beginning of July until the end of August under the Clean Energy programme for subsidies for the installation of heat pumps, solar thermal systems or green roofs. Prague City Hall spokesperson Vít Hofman said this today in a press release. Individuals, housing cooperatives and homeowners' associations can apply for the subsidy. The city has 25 million crowns available for allocation this year, with the same amount included in the programme next year.

The programme, which follows the so-called boiler subsidies, now includes not only heating modernisation but also measures aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change. "Prague is already implementing its own adaptation measures and supporting city districts in doing so. We now also want to offer support to residents so that they can create more greenery on their plots and homes, collect rainwater in tanks and implement other measures that help cool the city," said Deputy Mayor Jana Komrsková (independent, formerly Pirates).

The programme is divided into two groups. The first is intended for owners of family homes, flats and recreational properties, while the second is for apartment buildings. Applicants can receive support, for example, for the installation of heat pumps, solar systems, green roofs, rainwater storage tanks or other measures increasing buildings' energy efficiency and resilience to climate change. For family homes and individual flats, up to 150.000 crowns can be obtained for a heat pump, 50.000 crowns for a solar thermal system, 200.000 crowns for a green roof and 150.000 crowns for a rainwater storage tank.

For apartment buildings, up to 400.000 crowns can be obtained for a heat pump, 100.000 crowns for regulation of a heating system connected to district heating, 400.000 crowns for a green roof, 250.000 crowns for a rainwater storage tank, 200.000 crowns for climbing vegetation and 400.000 crowns for the so-called depaving of an impermeable surface on an adjoining plot, such as an inner courtyard.

According to City Hall, since its launch in 1994, the environmentally friendly heating support programme has helped provide this type of heating to more than 58.000 flats. In recent years, its focus has gradually broadened to better reflect current energy and climate needs, and alongside energy savings it has increasingly taken into account measures responding to drought, heatwaves or torrential rain.
