Czech electricity prices among world's highest

In the first quarter of 2025, electricity prices in the Czech Republic ranked thirteenth among the most expensive countries in the world. Neighbouring Germany ranked fifth. This was the conclusion of an analysis conducted by German comparison portal Verivox.
Households in Bermuda paid the most for electricity in international comparison, nearly 42 euro cents (CZK 10.42/kWh). They were followed by Denmark, Ireland and Belgium. Germany ranked fifth at 38 euro cents (CZK 9.43/kWh), according to the report, which draws on data for 143 countries from energy services provider Global Petrol Prices. The Czech Republic ranked thirteenth in the global ranking, with an average price for end customers of 30.35 euro cents/kWh (CZK 7.53/kWh).
The current global average electricity price for end customers is 15 euro cents per kWh (CZK 3.72/kWh), representing an increase of 29% compared with 2021. At that time, German consumers paid the highest electricity prices in the world, nearly 32 euro cents (CZK 7.94/kWh).
The cheapest electricity is in Iran, where a kilowatt-hour costs the equivalent of 0.35 euro cents (CZK 0.087/kWh), followed by Sudan at 0.53 euro cents (CZK 0.13/kWh), the report states.
After adjusting for purchasing power, the Czech Republic has the 16th most expensive electricity. Among European countries, only Italy is more expensive. After adjusting for purchasing power, Germany fell to 22nd place in the global ranking, but remains the country with the second-highest electricity price among the group of the most important industrialised and emerging economies (G20), behind Italy.
The parties in Germany's new coalition government have pledged to cut electricity prices for households and businesses by at least five cents per kilowatt-hour, using proceeds from the sale of emissions allowances. The parties also said they would reduce the electricity tax to the European minimum and lower grid connection charges.
