Czech Energy Olympiad 2025: High school students to tackle the future of energy

The largest energy competition for high school students, the Energy Olympiad, is entering its eighth year. The school round will take place on Friday, 17 October 2025 across the Czech Republic and will culminate in a two-day national final on 6–7 November 2025 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague.
The Olympiad gives high school students a unique opportunity to find out how real-world energy challenges are tackled – from renewable energy sources and smart grids to designing the systems of the future.
“The Energy Olympiad is a great example of how young people can engage with current energy challenges and start working on solutions while still in high school,” says Adéla Holasová, founder of the Energy Olympiad.
The school round is an online test, and the top 25 teams will advance to the final in Prague. There, three-member teams will compete by tackling a specialist assignment and presenting their ideas to a jury of experts from leading energy companies and academics.
“The Energy Olympiad is a great opportunity to bring talented high school students into the energy sector. The sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation and needs young talent, fresh ideas and the courage to seek innovative solutions. We are delighted to host the competition’s final at our faculty and to support the next generation of experts who will shape the energy sector in the Czech Republic and across Europe,” says Prof. Petr Páta, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague.
The Olympiad gives students a chance to discover who they really are and what they can do
“The Energy Olympiad isn’t just about winning. It’s about courage, creativity and collaboration. Students discover that they can do much more than they thought,” says Tomáš Čermák, a 2023 finalist who now works on projects with global reach. This year, for example, he and Anna Podmanická won the prestigious Earth Prize for a device that can remove harmful chemicals from water.
Opportunities for winners
In addition to 50 000 Kč and the chance to enrol in selected technical degree programs without entrance exams, the winners will take away, above all, valuable experience and contacts that will open doors to the world of innovation and technology.
Some projects even continue beyond the competition. For example, the winning team of Stanislav Sadílek, Ondřej Dolejš and Jakub Pelc completed an educational online game after the competition, working with experts from Energetická gramotnost and the competition’s main partner, ČEPS. The game, Energo Play, introduces the public to how the energy sector works and to the principles of managing the electricity system.
The Energy Olympiad was launched eight years ago in collaboration with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague. The project’s main partner is ČEPS.
