Electric vehicle uptake in Czechia is accelerating, while global trends vary

The Czech electric vehicle market is accelerating significantly this year, not only for new cars but also for used imports. While domestic registrations are boosting battery-electric vehicles’ share of the market, BloombergNEF’s global outlook points to increasingly uneven developments in China, Europe and the United States.

In the Czech Republic, according to an analysis by the Transport Research Centre (CDV), 11,665 new battery-electric passenger cars were registered from January to August, up 32% year on year. Their share of total new passenger car registrations rose from 5.5% to 7%, reaching 8.45% in August alone.

The pace of growth is particularly evident in the second half of the year. A total of 1,497 new BEVs were registered in August, a year-on-year increase of 78%. The Czech passenger car fleet now includes more than 77,000 battery-electric vehicles.

Used cars are making electric mobility more accessible

The secondary market is also gaining strength alongside new car sales. A total of 8,930 used electric passenger cars were imported into the Czech Republic during the first eight months of the year, up 68% year on year. At the same time, BEVs’ share of imported used passenger cars rose from 5.4% to 8.3%.
