Market for electric commercial vehicles grew in the EU and Czechia over the first three quarters

The market for electric commercial vehicles grew in the European Union and Czechia over the first three quarters of this year, but the market share of electric vehicles is higher in the EU across all vehicle categories. The Transport Research Centre (CDV) reported this in a press release, drawing on data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, the Ministry of Transport, the Czech Automotive Importers Association and the European Alternative Fuels Observatory.
The number of new electrically powered light commercial vehicles, including vans and trucks weighing up to 3.5 tonnes, rose by 62.7 percent in the EU over nine months. With 109.332 vehicles, electric models in this category reached a market share of 10.2 percent.
Electric truck sales in the EU rose by 64.9 percent, giving them a market share of 3.8 percent. New electric bus sales in the bloc increased by 49.1 percent over nine months, reaching a market share of 22.7 percent.

"The number of newly registered electric vehicles in the light commercial vehicle segment has risen significantly in Czechia this year. A total of 1000 were registered in the first nine months, nearly three times as many as in the same period last year. We are seeing a similar trend, although the absolute numbers are still lower, in trucks, with 90 battery electric vehicles registered over the same period, compared with 15 last year," said CDV Director Jindřich Frič.
Transport operators in Czechia bought 15 fewer electric buses this year than last year.
Compared with the European Union, the market shares of electric vehicles in the individual categories are lower in Czechia. Over the nine months, electric vehicles accounted for 6.9 percent of light commercial vehicle sales, compared with 10.2 percent in the EU. Electric trucks made up 1.4 percent of all trucks sold in Czechia, against 3.8 percent in the bloc. Similarly, electric buses had a market share of 3.5 percent in Czechia this year, compared with 22.7 percent in the bloc.
