European Commission's drive for climate neutrality – threat or opportunity for Czech energy sector?

The 20th edition of the prestigious energy congress will take place on 13 February 2020 at the Prezident Hotel in Prague. As is customary, senior managers and experts from the most important companies and institutions in the Czech energy sector will meet here.
The new European Commission is coming forward with ambitious climate and environmental targets under the so-called Green Deal for Europe. As part of the transition to a climate-responsible economy, the Commission wants to initiate massive investments in green projects in the coming months. The Czech Republic is at the beginning of this process. At the congress, we will discuss approaches to climate protection and decarbonisation with leading energy experts, focusing in particular on new business opportunities and ways of using European funding. Pavel Cyrani, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of ČEZ; Pavel Elis, Chief Executive Officer of Pražská energetika; Martin Záklasník, Executive Director of E.ON; and Karel Vinkler, Director of the Innovation Section at ČEPS, will present their views on European climate policy and its reflection in the strategies of major players.

In the morning programme, we will open a dialogue between advocates of conventional sources and supporters of alternative solutions, i.e. renewable sources. Martin Sedlák, Programme Director of the Modern Energy Association; Martin Slabý, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pražská plynárenská; and Martin Hájek, Director of the District Heating Association, will introduce participants to their vision of cooperation between conventional and renewable sources. Nuclear energy will be defended by Vladivoj Řezník, a member of the expert team of the government commissioner for nuclear energy at the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade. Pavel Zámyslický, Director of the Energy Department at the Czech Ministry of the Environment, will discuss financing options for new projects.

In the afternoon session, PREdistribuce Director Milan Hampl and Pavel Čada, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of E.ON Distribuce, will explain distributors’ readiness for new requirements from prosumers, digitalisation, electromobility and the active use of distribution data. International guest Michael Bez from EnBW Energie-Baden Württemberg will speak about the experience of the digital transformation of a major energy player. Michal Ostatnický of GasNet will focus on Power-to-Gas, one of the innovative solutions, and its use in the Czech Republic.
