The Czech seminar “Energy storage and photovoltaics from A to Z” will present the latest technologies, energy project experience and legislation

The AKU-BAT Association is holding the 5th annual professional seminar “Energy storage and photovoltaics from A to Z”, which will take place on 23 March 2026 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague. The seminar will offer a comprehensive overview—from the legislative framework and technological principles to practical experience in project implementation and operation.

The development of renewable energy sources and their integration into the energy system bring new technical and economic challenges. The combination of photovoltaics and energy storage is now one of the tools for stabilising the electricity system, optimising power generation and efficiently managing energy resources. The seminar will therefore give participants a comprehensive overview of current trends, legislative changes and technological innovations in this field.

The seminar programme is divided into several thematic sessions covering the entire project life cycle—from preparation and permitting to operation and technology recycling.

In the first session, devoted to legislation, participants will learn about the current legal framework for solar power plants and battery energy storage systems. Vojtěch Krajíček (Doucha Šikola advokáti) will present the legislative framework for solar PV and BESS, contractual documentation, the grid connection process and changes to the Energy Act. Jiří Bím (AKU-BAT Association, Solar Association) will discuss permitting processes in practice, the use of BIM in the energy sector and the legislative aspects of agrivoltaics.

The second session will focus on photovoltaic technologies.Ladislava Černá (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague) will provide a technical introduction to photovoltaics, explaining how electricity is generated, the types of photovoltaic cells, their efficiency, degradation and service life. She will also present current technology trends, including bifacial panels, tandem cells and perovskite technologies. Dominik Sochulák and Martin Marek (Greenbuddies) will share practical project experience, focusing on how solar power plants and battery energy storage systems work, technology trends and system options for installations.

The third session will look at battery energy storage systems as a technology and investment tool.Ivo Apfel (TESLA ENERGY GROUP) will present the role of batteries in modern energy systems, their economic value, the underlying technology and the differences between residential, commercial and industrial solutions. The session will also review current battery technologies and their future development.

Petr Gaman (Flowbox) and Adam Kováč (Solar Global) will address flexibility and energy management. Their presentations will focus on industrial applications of battery energy storage systems, the economics of their operation, flexibility aggregation, electricity trading and the optimisation of energy asset operations.

Battery system operational safety will also feature prominently on the programme, with a presentation by Pavel Hrzina (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague). It will cover fire, chemical and toxicological risks, technical standards, design approaches to risk minimisation and safety standards. The programme will also include cybersecurity for photovoltaic and battery systems, presented by Petra Dobešová (Doucha Šikola advokáti).

The final session will focus on recycling and investors’ future responsibilities. Petr Kratochvíl (ECOBAT) will discuss the development of take-back schemes for industrial batteries, the recycling of Li-ion and LFP batteries, and the economic impact of the European Batteries Regulation. Václav Douda (REsolar) will cover photovoltaic panel recycling, focusing on manufacturers’ and operators’ obligations, material recovery from panels and the economics of their disposal.

The seminar will be opened and chaired by Jan Fousek (AKU-BAT Association).

The event is intended for a broad professional audience—including investors, developers, energy specialists, designers, public administration representatives, property managers, housing cooperatives and condominium associations, as well as teachers at vocational schools and mayors of smaller municipalities. It will benefit both participants who are just getting to grips with the subject and professionals seeking up-to-date information on technological and legislative developments.
