ČEZ to convert Trmice heating plant from coal to gas. Project to cost CZK 8,1 billion

The Trmice heating plant, the main heat source for the regional city of Ústí nad Labem, will be converted from coal-fired operation to natural gas by Metrostav DIZ for 335,2 million euros, or around CZK 8,1 billion. The Ekonomický deník news site reported this today, citing information from the Public Procurement Bulletin and a statement by the ČEZ Group, which operates the heating plant.

ČEZ Teplárenská will also conclude a service contract with Metrostav worth 77,1 million euros (nearly CZK 1,9 billion). The heating plant is also set to receive a new biomass boiler house from Ekol Brno. According to ČEZ, the new sources could begin operating in Trmice within four years.

According to the site, Metrostav DIZ was the sole bidder in the tender for the construction of the gas-fired source. “We expect the construction and commissioning of the new sources to be completed by the end of 2030,” ČEZ spokesperson Roman Gazdík told Ekonomický deník. According to Ekonomický deník, the natural gas-fired source will have an electrical capacity of 150 megawatts (MW) and thermal capacity of 100 megawatts (MWt). The heating plant supplies Trmice and Ústí nad Labem.

ČEZ Teplárenská supplies heat to customers in 26 towns and municipalities in the Ústí nad Labem, Karlovy Vary, Hradec Králové, Moravian-Silesian and South Moravian regions. In addition to more than 114.000 households, the company's heat customers include hospitals, public authorities, schools and industrial enterprises.
