Marius Pedersen enters energy sector, takes over Zlín heating plant in Czechia

Marius Pedersen, a company primarily engaged in waste management, is buying Teplárna Zlín. It announced the deal in a press release today. The heating plant was previously owned by the energy group Sev.en, founded by entrepreneur Pavel Tykač. Marius Pedersen did not disclose the value of the transaction, which still requires approval from the Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS).

The company said that once the transaction is completed, nothing will change for Teplárna Zlín’s customers, partners or employees. The company will continue to provide services at the current scope and quality. It plans to maintain existing operating processes and long-standing relationships with customers and business partners.

"Teplárna Zlín is a stable and respected company with an important role in the region, and our goal is to build on its successful operations, maintain continuity in the services provided and further develop its potential," said Jakub Kvapil, CEO of Marius Pedersen CZ.

Teplárna Zlín has an installed electricity generation capacity of 64 megawatts (MW) and a heat production capacity of 373 MW. In addition to coal, it can also burn biomass and biogas.

Marius Pedersen, headquartered in Hradec Králové, employs around 3500 people in Czechia at more than 80 sites and facilities. It provides services to 25,000 industrial customers and nearly 2000 local authorities, handling two million tonnes of waste annually for them. Last year, the company had a turnover of more than 300 million euros, equivalent to 7.3 billion crowns. French company Paprec announced this month that it is buying all of Marius Pedersen’s waste management activities in Czechia and Slovakia from the Danish group.
