A large part of Ostrava was without heating or hot water from Wednesday afternoon until this morning. According to Veolia Energie, the cause was a fault on a district heating pipeline. Supplies were interrupted in Ostrava-Jih and Poruba, the city's most populous districts. The problem affected tens of thousands of people.
"On 29 October 2025 at around 14:30, two leaks occurred on the district heating network supplying the Ostrava-Poruba and Ostrava-Jih districts. After identifying and isolating the affected sections, we immediately began repairs. Supplies of heat have now been restored in both affected areas," Petra Losertová of Veolia Energie told the Czech News Agency (ČTK).
