Amentum awarded contract to manage construction of Sizewell C nuclear power plant

US engineering company Amentum has been selected as the sole partner for program and project management for the planned construction of the Sizewell C nuclear power plant in the UK. In addition to managing the construction project, Amentum will provide support services to Sizewell C Ltd.

These services include digitally enabled project controls, engineering and technical services, and innovative solutions for managing the site’s infrastructure. The contract will run until the plant begins generating electricity.

“Amentum’s global program management capabilities and international experience in building new nuclear power plants will help us deliver significant benefits and cost savings by replicating the reactor design used at Hinkley Point C. At the same time, this will support our commitment to creating jobs and developing skills in the UK, as well as maintaining the national capabilities needed for a nuclear renaissance,” said Nigel Cann, co-chief executive of Sizewell C.

“Our international program management experience and the insights gained from working on the Hinkley Point C project will help accelerate a project that is crucial for job creation and supporting national economic growth,” said Andy White, senior vice president of Amentum Energy & Environment International.

EDF’s plan calls for the construction of two EPR reactors with a combined installed capacity of 3.2 GW. The plant will have a design similar to that of the two-unit Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in the county of Somerset. The aim is to use experience from that construction to speed up the build and reduce costs.

Sizewell C Ltd is a separate company, 76% owned by the UK government. The government has already pledged investments of 2.5 billion pounds (approx. CZK 75 billion). A final investment decision is expected as part of the government’s upcoming spending review.
