Czech industry association: Delay to Dukovany contract is negative for energy and businesses

The delay in signing the contract to build two new nuclear units at the Dukovany power plant is bad news for the Czech energy sector and for the interests of businesses and consumers. Jan Rafaj, president of the Confederation of Industry and Transport of the Czech Republic, said this in a press release today. He also expressed hope that the agreement with South Korea’s KHNP could be concluded as soon as possible. On Tuesday, the Regional Court in Brno blocked the signing with an interim injunction requested by French company EDF, which is challenging the outcome of the tender to complete the power plant.

The agreement was due to be signed on Wednesday, but the court’s decision put a stop to that. KHNP representatives at least signed the first binding contracts in Prague on future cooperation with Czech companies in building the nuclear units at Dukovany. Rafaj welcomed the signing of these agreements.
