Fiala: Signing the Dukovany deal before the current Czech government's term ends is uncertain

The final contract for the construction of nuclear units at Dukovany may not be signed before the current government's term ends. The timing will depend on the court's decision. Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) acknowledged this today in an interview with Radiožurnál. However, he said the planned start-up of the first reactor in 2036 is not yet at risk. ANO deputy chairman Karel Havlíček called the tender's final stages an unbelievable fiasco and an international disgrace.
The signing of the final agreement with South Korea's KHNP was originally planned for 7 May, but the Regional Court in Brno blocked it with an interim injunction the day before. The court acted on a motion by French company EDF, which challenged a decision by the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS). The office had ruled that the tender was in order. The court has yet to rule on EDF's lawsuit.
Fiala stressed that he still hoped the current government would manage to conclude the Dukany contract.
