Oil prices rise after weekend drone attacks on Russian refineries

Oil prices are rising on global markets today. Investors were weighing the impact of weekend Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries and US President Donald Trump's pressure on NATO countries to stop buying Russian oil, Reuters reported.

At around 17:40 CEST, North Sea Brent crude was up 0.7 percent at $67.46 a barrel. US light crude WTI was up nearly one percent at the same time, trading at $63.30 a barrel.

Prices are continuing to move in a range of USD 65 to 70, supported by the risk of supply disruptions following successful Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian energy infrastructure and Trump's latest calls for tougher secondary sanctions on buyers of Russian oil, Saxo Bank analyst Ole Hansen told Reuters.

Ukrainian drones struck a refinery in the city of Kirishi in Russia's Leningrad region overnight on Sunday. The facility is one of the largest in the country and, according to various sources, processes 17.7 million to 21 million tonnes of oil a year. The previous night, a refinery in Ufa was targeted in a Ukrainian drone attack.
