Trump is ready to impose major sanctions on Russia if NATO countries do so

US President Donald Trump is ready to impose major sanctions on Russia if all NATO member states do so and stop buying Russian oil. The war will then end quickly, he wrote on the Truth Social platform. If NATO does not do as Trump wants, then in his view it is just wasting his time. It is a war between former US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump also remarked, without mentioning Russian President Vladimir Putin, who launched the conflict more than three and a half years ago.

"As you know, NATO's determination to win has so far been far less than 100 percent, and the purchases of Russian oil by some countries have been shocking! This significantly weakens your negotiating position and leverage with Russia. In any case, I am ready to "go ahead," when you are ready," Trump wrote in a post he titled as a letter sent to all NATO countries and the entire world.

He also expressed the belief that such an approach, together with tariffs of 50 to 100 percent on China, would be very helpful in ending this "murderous but senseless" conflict. According to the president, who had previously promised to end the war within 24 hours of taking office, Beijing has considerable influence over Moscow.

"If NATO does as I say, the war will end quickly," the US president also wrote. He has repeatedly threatened Moscow with tough sanctions but has never imposed them, despite his own ultimatums expiring.

"If not, you are just wasting my time and the time, energy and money of the United States," he added.

The European Commission (EC) wants to push for a gradual halt to imports of Russian gas and oil into the European Union, but Slovakia and Hungary oppose the move.
