Looking back at the 45th NZEE 2024 conference in Czechia

Another milestone edition of the Unconventional Sources of Electric Energy (NZEE) conference is now successfully behind us. This year’s 45th edition took place from 24. 6. to 26. 6. 2024 at a new venue in the Znojmo region. Znojmo, also known as the city of wine, offers not only a wide range of regional wineries but also a unique cultural experience in its distinctive urban conservation area. The conference itself was held at the pleasant wellness Hotel Savannah in Hatě near Znojmo.

Among the most prominent technical areas at this year’s conference were undoubtedly PV systems, particularly the legislative and technological framework for using energy produced by these renewable sources. A key topic was community energy, energy communities and the issue of managing consumption within communities, as well as surplus electricity fed into the grid.

Energy storage is inextricably linked to photovoltaic systems, primarily in the form of batteries. A significant proportion of the presentations therefore focused on battery storage systems, their management (BMS), operation and monitoring. In addition to the frequently discussed lithium-ion batteries, other new battery types currently under development were also presented, particularly sodium-ion battery technology. Sodium-ion batteries are a promising complement (not an alternative) to established lithium-ion battery technology. Thanks above all to their cost and availability, they could find applications as stationary battery storage for renewable energy sources. Other interesting and widely discussed conference topics included electric vehicles, lithium-ion battery recycling and fuel cell research.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all conference participants. We are delighted that the conference attracts such interest from experts not only in academia but also in industry.

Our sincere thanks go to all the conference partners, whose support was essential to delivering the event on this scale and to this standard. The main partners of this year’s conference were Škoda Auto Czech Republic, the Czech Photovoltaic Association (ČFA) and Pragolab: Laboratory Instruments and Equipment.

We would already like to invite you to the 46th edition of the Unconventional Sources of Electric Energy (NZEE) conference in 2025, which will traditionally take place in the second half of June. The conference will once again be held at Hotel Savannah in Hatě near Znojmo.
