More than 10.000 Czech electricity connections were without power after storms this morning

More than 10.000 electricity connections in Czechia were without power before noon today after storms, mainly in South Bohemia. Power crews are repairing the faults; tens of thousands of connections were affected on Wednesday evening, and more than 17.000 customers were without power this morning. This is according to information from distribution companies EG.D and ČEZ. Severe storms swept across Czechia on Wednesday afternoon and evening, with power crews saying that damage was caused by trees falling onto power lines and by lightning strikes.

In EG.D’s distribution network, which covers mainly the southern part of the Czech Republic, there were 23 faults on high-voltage lines this morning. In South Bohemia, the company reported around 8300 electricity connections without power, including 5600 in the Český Krumlov area and 1800 in the České Budějovice area. In the Vysočina Region, 400 customers were without supply. „In many places, there are several faults on a single line. We are working intensively on repairs and doing everything we can to restore supply as soon as possible,“ EG.D spokesperson Lubomír Budný said.

ČEZ had 13 faults on high-voltage lines in its distribution network before noon following the storms, company spokesperson Soňa Holingerová told the Czech News Agency. Around 1500 households were without power, including 600 in the Central Bohemian Region and 550 in the Hradec Králové Region. Around 320 customers had an outage in the Pardubice Region. „The cause was trees falling onto power lines as a result of wind and storms, as well as lightning strikes on the lines,“ the spokesperson said. She expects supply to be restored this afternoon.

Power crews worked on repairs overnight and today, significantly reducing the number of customers without power. At 19:00 on Wednesday, ČEZ reported 32 faults on high-voltage lines and 37.000 electricity connections without supply, of which almost 28.000 were in the Central Bohemian Region, nearly 5000 in the Hradec Králové Region and around 3500 in the Ústí nad Labem Region. By morning, the number had fallen to 21 faults and 5000 households affected by outages. At 22:00 on Wednesday, EG.D had 18.000 electricity connections without power, and nearly 12.000 this morning.
