ŠKO-ENERGO installs 1,692 new solar panels in Czechia

ŠKO-ENERGO has commissioned 1,692 new solar panels. Installing rooftop solar power plants helps the company meet its strategy of achieving carbon neutrality by the end of this decade. The new panels will generate up to 639 MWh of zero-emission electricity a year.
ŠKO-ENERGO is successfully continuing to install rooftop solar power plants. The company has commissioned a total of 1 692 new solar panels on the roofs of three of its facilities in Mladá Boleslav. In the future, they will be able to generate up to 639 MWh of electricity a year. The zero-emission electricity generated would cover the consumption of 100 low-energy family homes.
The company installed solar panels at three of its facilities—on two roofs of water treatment plants at the Škoda Auto factory complex in Mladá Boleslav. The largest installation, with 1 426 panels, is at the Bradlec Water Treatment Plant.
ŠKO-ENERGO Managing Director Tomáš Kubín says: “This solar power plant will generate up to 639 MWh a year. It will be a good complement to two other rooftop solar projects completed in recent years. By gradually transforming our energy mix, we are delivering on our strategy of achieving carbon-neutral energy production by the end of this decade.”
“We have successfully installed rooftop solar panels in cooperation with Škoda Auto and ČEZ ESCO on the Service Centre building in Kosmonosy and on three Škoda Auto halls in Mladá Boleslav. However, this is the first project carried out on the roofs of our own facilities. We plan to continue expanding solar power in the future. We are currently preparing a pilot project to install flexible photovoltaic panels on the compressor station building at the carmaker’s Mladá Boleslav plant,” adds Milan Poddaný, Head of Planning and Project Management at ŠKO-ENERGO.

ŠKO-ENERGO received a grant from the Modernisation Fund of the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic to install the panels, which have now been completed. The grant covered approximately a quarter of the total costs.
Carbon-neutral energy mix by the end of 2030
Biomass will play a key role in ŠKO-ENERGO’s transition to a carbon-neutral energy mix. For this reason, the company began modernising its Mladá Boleslav heating plant in 2024. The work is expected to be completed at the end of 2027.
Replacing natural gas with biomethane will also be crucial, with the change planned from 2030.
