Washington imposes further sanctions aimed at preventing Iranian oil exports

The United States today imposed further sanctions aimed at preventing Iranian oil exports, including through third countries – primarily China. The US Treasury Department announced the move on its website.
„Any refinery, company or trader that chooses to buy Iranian oil or engage in trade involving it faces serious risks,“ US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.
„The United States is committed to disrupting the activities of all parties supporting the Iranian oil supply chain, which the regime uses to support its terrorist allies and partners.“
The sanctions specifically target Chinese refinery Shandong Shengxing Chemical, which Washington says bought more than one billion dollars (CZK 22 billion) worth of Iranian oil, as well as vessels in the so-called Iranian shadow fleet involved in oil exports. These are primarily tankers sailing under the flags of Panama and Cameroon, which Washington says have exported billions of dollars' worth of Iranian oil, including to Chinese refineries.

US sanctions will result in the freezing of all company assets located in the United States. The US government is currently negotiating with Iran over its nuclear program.
