At a time when Europe is seeking reliable and sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels, biomass represents a logical and economically advantageous step forward. Thanks to its natural origin, its use for energy does not generate new greenhouse gases – the carbon released during combustion was only recently bound in plants and woody vegetation, so its amount in the atmosphere does not increase.

Central Europe has ideal conditions for the use of biomass: abundant local raw materials, experience with burning solid fuels and well-developed infrastructure. The use of local resources also minimises additional emissions associated with logistics. At the same time, it ensures energy security, including in crisis situations when supplies from abroad may be limited.

Biomass can often be burned in facilities originally designed for coal, both in large heating plants and smaller boiler houses. Modern technologies with efficient flue-gas cleaning also make it possible to use biomass that has already been used in other sectors, increasing its environmental value.

From an economic perspective, biomass brings another advantage – it is not subject to the purchase of CO₂ emission allowances, which is a key benefit for large energy facilities and small consumers alike. Compared with switching from coal to natural gas, where emissions are reduced by only 0–20 %, biomass offers an almost 100% reduction in new greenhouse gases.

Important prerequisites for reliable operation are the standardisation of quality and the assurance of stable supplies. This is an area where an experienced, established partner is needed. EP Resources, a supplier of conventional and renewable fuels in Central and Eastern Europe, combines its own biomass production with a sophisticated logistics network. As a result, it can provide:

  • stable supplies of certified biomass,
  • long-term price predictability,
  • technical support in switching to a new type of fuel,
  • solutions for small and large facilities alike, including multifunctional technologies.

EP Resources draws on its know-how from completed projects to help clients fully harness the potential of biomass – from wood chips and pellets to specific types of plant biomass. The aim is not only to switch to a more environmentally friendly fuel, but also to ensure operational reliability, high biomass efficiency and support for local employment.

Biomass is not merely a replacement for coal; it is a stable, environmentally friendly and economically viable solution. And with a partner that understands both regional conditions and technological requirements, this transition becomes not only possible but also advantageous.
