Czech New Green Savings programme approved applications worth over CZK 91 billion in 15 years, Hladík says

In the 15 years that the New Green Savings (NZÚ) subsidy programme has been operating to support building renovations, insulation and improved energy sustainability, the Ministry of the Environment (MŽP) has approved 412,000 applications worth more than CZK 91 billion. Under the Light sub-programme, it has approved 86,000 applications worth more than CZK 10 billion. So far, 5,600 people have applied for subsidies totalling around CZK 5.5 billion under the Repair Your House After Grandma programme, which supports comprehensive property insulation. Environment Minister Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) told journalists.
Since 2021, 112 applications for renovations of architecturally and historically valuable buildings have also been approved under NZÚ, according to Hladík. Such projects can be more complicated and costly, the minister said. The Ministry of the Environment is therefore currently working with the Ministry of Culture on joint guidelines for how to approach renovations of these buildings. Hladík expects the guidelines could be agreed in the coming weeks.
„The aim of the guidelines being prepared is to identify measures that will make these buildings better to use, reduce their energy consumption and, at the same time, help preserve what is truly valuable about them. Owners can use various types of subsidies to finance such renovations, for example from the NZÚ programme or the Modernisation Fund,“ Hladík said.
The standard NZÚ programme is administered by the State Environmental Fund (SFŽP) and supports all types of insulation. It is therefore possible to apply for a subsidy for basic or partial insulation as well. The support is available to owners of family houses and apartment buildings where seniors, families receiving housing benefits or people with level III disabilities live. Subsidies can cover up to half of the costs and are paid after the investment has been completed. Applicants who comprehensively insulate their house can receive up to CZK 950,000. For new buildings, support is available for construction to the highest energy-efficiency standard, with subsidies of up to CZK 535,000. Households receiving support for family houses can also qualify for bonuses for disadvantaged regions, as well as bonuses for combining measures.
According to the Ministry of the Environment, NZÚ Light is intended to provide immediate financial support to seniors and lower-income households for quick and simple home insulation. Unlike the standard version of the programme, the money is paid in advance. Owners of flats and homeowners’ associations can also apply for NZÚ Light subsidies if at least 75 percent of the building has been renovated. Up to CZK 250,000 is available for partial insulation.
Repair Your House After Grandma is one of the programmes under the New Green Savings (NZÚ) scheme. For comprehensive insulation, the programme offers access through some banks to a preferential loan with an interest rate of no more than 3.5 percent, or a subsidy of up to CZK 1 million. For smaller renovations, such as replacing windows and doors or insulating the facade, roof, ceiling or floor, applicants can apply for up to CZK 150,000. The subsidy must not exceed half of the costs of the work. The state will distribute CZK 40 billion to applicants through the programme.
