Czech state to provide one billion crowns for energy communities, launches grant call

The state will provide at least one billion crowns to further develop energy communities in Czechia. The Ministry of the Environment (MŽP), together with the State Environmental Fund (SFŽP), has launched a new grant call from the European Modernisation Fund for community renewable energy projects. If needed, the authorities are prepared to increase the funding by a further one billion crowns. The MŽP announced this today. The ministry is being asked by the Czech News Agency (ČTK) whether a new government could affect the grants in future.
“Energy communities make it possible to share the benefits of renewable energy sources where they are generated, bringing significant economic and social benefits to local communities. That is also why one billion crowns from the Modernisation Fund is being allocated to investment in energy community projects. We have the same amount ready in case demand from communities exceeds the allocated funding,” said Environment Minister Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).
The new grant call under the Komunerg programme follows an investment worth hundreds of millions of crowns from the National Recovery Plan, which funded 55 new energy communities last year. “Our aim is to lay the foundations for a functioning community energy sector here. The current offer of funding for specific community projects from the Modernisation Fund will help turn energy communities’ visions into real projects,” Hladík noted.
