Local referendums on wind turbines to be held in Dalečín and Jamné in Czechia's Vysočina Region

Two local referendums on the possible construction of wind turbines will also be held in the Vysočina Region alongside this month's regional elections. One will take place in Dalečín in the Žďár nad Sázavou District and the other in the municipality of Jamné in the Jihlava District. A private company is interested in building in Dalečín, while in Jamné the municipality itself is considering it. This is based on information obtained by ČTK from the municipalities' websites and mayors. Elections to the regional councils will be held on 20 and 21 September.

In Jamné, which has 550 residents, the municipal council approved the following referendum question in mid-August: Do you agree with the construction of a wind turbine in the cadastral area of the municipality of Jamné u Jihlavy, provided that the wind turbine is owned by the municipality of Jamné u Jihlavy?

This will be Jamné's second referendum on wind turbines. In the first, five years ago, when developers were interested in the area, a majority of votes cast opposed construction. „However, the energy sector has changed significantly since then,“ Mayor Ĺuboš Varhaník (independent) said in a statement today.

This time, the municipality would like to be the investor and owner of the wind turbine. It has also begun taking the first steps towards establishing an energy community that would bring together other sources of electricity, such as municipal solar power plants, hydropower plants and privately owned biogas plants. „The aim of this effort is to build energy infrastructure that would enable the community to produce, share and supply affordable electricity in the area around the municipality,“ the mayor said.

Residents of Dalečín will answer the following question in the referendum: Do you agree with locating two wind turbines in the cadastral area of Dalečín? The municipality has a population of 640. The municipal council approved the referendum on 21 August.

According to the municipal office's website, Jipocar Power would like to build two wind turbines near the boundary of Dalečín's cadastral area, in the direction of Strachujov, and is interested in signing a cooperation agreement with the municipality. „Following a public discussion, it became clear that residents' views differ, so the municipal council decided to find out the majority opinion through a referendum,“ the published resolution states.

In addition to these two referendums on wind turbine construction, another referendum will be held during the regional elections in Vysočina, in Radňovice in the Žďár nad Sázavou District, where residents will give their views on building a bypass around the municipality.
