Ministry launches first renewable energy auctions, 42 MW to be built by end-2025

At the start of this week, the Ministry of Industry and Trade published calls for bids for support for electricity from renewable sources. Bids will be sought for support for the construction of 30 MW of new wind power plants, 7 MW of new and modernised small hydropower plants, and the modernisation of 5 MWe of power plants using biogas. Bids must be submitted by 7 December 2022. 

After a number of years in which support for renewable energy sources in the European Union has been allocated through auctions, the Czech Republic has now followed suit, announcing three separate auctions to support electricity generation from renewable sources. A total of 42 MW will be auctioned, to be commissioned (or modernised) by the end of 2025.

Under the Act on Supported Energy Sources, auctions are generally intended for generating plants with higher installed capacity – above 6 MW or six wind turbines in the case of wind power plants, while the threshold for other sources is 1 MW of installed capacity.
