September Hydrogen Day in Jihlava, Czechia, will also showcase hydrogen-powered cars and a bus

People in Jihlava can see hydrogen-powered cars and a hydrogen bus on 18 September in Masaryk Square during Hydrogen Day in the Vysočina Region. The public event will be preceded by a professional programme at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava on the use of hydrogen technologies in Czechia and abroad. The event is being organised by members of the Hydrogen Vysočina platform, established this year. A document on the accession of additional members to the platform could also be signed on the occasion, Deputy Governor Hana Hajnová (Pirates) announced.
The professional programme will begin at the college at 10:00 on 18 September. Experts will discuss the state of hydrogen use in Czechia and other European countries. Speakers will include representatives of the Czech Hydrogen Technology Platform and UJV Řež. The accompanying programme in Masaryk Square will start at 14:00. It will feature, for example, the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo cars and a hydrogen bus made by Slovak manufacturer Mobility & Innovation. Details of the event are available on the region’s website.
The platform’s first signatories were the Vysočina Region, the city of Jihlava, the College of Polytechnics Jihlava, and the companies SmartPlan and Jipocar Power. They signed a memorandum focused on the potential uses of hydrogen in the region on 6 April. “The purpose of the memorandum is to identify new opportunities for regional development,” Deputy Governor Hajnová said.
These include hydrogen technologies that could be used, for example, in transport. “Over time, it has become clear that there may be more opportunities, whether in production, distribution or storage. That is why we said from the outset that the emerging platform would be open,” she said. According to the region’s website, Orlen Unipetrol RPA, TK EKO, Kolibrik.net and transport company ICOM transport are now joining the memorandum. The regional council decided on Tuesday to conclude an updated memorandum of cooperation.
“We already work with these companies, and among other things we are preparing Hydrogen Day in the Vysočina Region with them,” Hajnová said.
It is the platform’s first joint public activity. According to the deputy governor, its members meet informally approximately once every two months.
