Czechs bought 1307 battery electric vehicles in first quarter, down year on year

Czechs registered 1307 new passenger battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the first quarter of this year, down 1.2 percent year on year. Their share of all newly registered cars reached 2.3 percent, one of the lowest shares among European Union countries. The figures were reported by the Brno-based Transport Research Centre (CDV).
In addition to 1307 new battery electric vehicles, people also registered 1900 used BEVs in the first quarter of this year. „Both currently and over the long term, Czechia has ranked near the bottom among EU countries for the share of battery electric vehicles. This year it is in second-to-last place; only Croatia, with a share of 1.3 percent, was behind us. One reason for the slight year-on-year decline in new battery electric vehicle registrations here may have been deferred demand from companies and entrepreneurs waiting for the launch of the Electromobility guarantee programme,“ said Lukáš Kadula of the CDV. The guarantee programme is intended for companies and entrepreneurs planning to renew or modernise their company vehicle fleets. Applications opened in mid-March this year. They can receive a loan and a grant for an electric vehicle, a hydrogen-powered car or the construction of a charging station.
A total of 24,239 BEVs were registered in Czechia at the end of the first quarter of this year, more than the number of CNG vehicles. A quarter of battery electric vehicles are used, meaning they have been registered before, while 75 percent of BEVs are company cars. Tesla is the most represented brand, with 4536 vehicles, followed by Škoda with 4346 and Volkswagen with 2719.

The largest number of battery electric vehicles is registered in Prague, with 9681, followed by the Central Bohemian Region with 4205 BEVs and the South Moravian Region with 2266 BEVs.
A total of 332,999 battery electric vehicles were registered across the European Union in the first quarter of this year, up 3.8 percent year on year from the same period last year. BEVs accounted for 12 percent of all registered cars.
