Beyond conventional PPAs: the potential of fully funded renewable energy systems could win over even Czech companies

Long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) have long been presented as an ideal solution for stabilising costs in industry. On the Czech market, however, they encounter companies’ often justified wariness of rigid commitments, inflation clauses and their inability to cover a business’s total consumption.
The technical nature of these projects is itself an obstacle to wider adoption of PPAs on the Czech market. A typical PPA covers only part of a customer’s total consumption. Since they are usually tied exclusively to solar power and lack storage (battery systems), generation tends to be undersized compared with the client’s actual needs. Much of the potential of photovoltaic power therefore remains untapped, and the company has to purchase the remaining volume of energy separately
Attention is therefore shifting to fully funded renewable energy systems, which offer much greater flexibility and protection against market fluctuations thanks to the integration of battery storage and dynamic tariffs.

A smart and flexible system is the solution
Wattstor’s fully funded renewable energy systems address these shortcomings, which tie companies’ hands. Compared with traditional PPAs, these systems offer significant advantages by building in battery storage and smart energy management from the outset.
“We are seeing standard PPAs stop making commercial sense for companies. Our fully funded renewable energy systems directly address these shortcomings. We provide battery storage that enables us to cover a customer’s entire consumption, not just a fraction of it. What’s more, customers are not locked into rigid pricing structures with us—we can actively respond to falling market prices thanks to batteries and smart software, something standard PPAs are inherently unable to do,” explains Patrik Pinkoš, Head of Sales for Europe at Wattstor.

Dynamic tariffs as a route to real savings
Combining a smart battery, on-site solar power and dynamic energy tariffs gives companies a tool to genuinely stabilise their costs, even in uncertain times. While a fixed-price PPA forces a business to take electricity at an agreed price regardless of whether the current spot-market price falls into negative territory, a fully funded system from Wattstor can adapt to the market. The battery makes it possible to draw energy from the grid precisely when it is cheapest. Businesses thus gain energy independence and stability without worrying about the inflation traps of long-term commitments.
