Electric vehicle market in Czechia accelerates. June sales soar to record high

Sales of electric vehicles in Czechia reached a new high in June, with people buying 2142 new electric cars, surpassing this year's previous record of 1684 vehicles in April. This follows from data published by the Transport Research Centre.
However, the share of electric vehicles in total car sales in Czechia still lags behind EU countries. From January to May, it stood at 6.3 percent in Czechia, compared with 20 percent across the EU. Data for the full half-year are not yet available. In June, electric vehicles accounted for 8.1 percent of newly registered passenger cars.
"The Czech electric vehicle market is gradually approaching more advanced European countries. Growth is evident not only in registrations of new vehicles, but also in the imported used-car market, which represents an increasingly important route to electric mobility," said Pavel Havránek, director of the mobility and safety division at the Transport Research Centre (CDV).

By the end of June, 72.200 fully electric passenger cars were on the road in Czechia. Their number increased by 15.300 in the first half of the year, with imported used vehicles accounting for 44 percent of that increase. The total number of passenger cars in Czechia reached 6,856 million at the end of last year; the Car Importers Association publishes this figure once a year. Growth in the electric vehicle market is accelerating: 10.300 electric vehicles were added in Czechia in the first half of last year, compared with 5400 in the first six months of 2024.
Škoda leads the ranking of best-selling brands in the Czech Republic for the first half of the year, accounting for 2800 of the total 8500 newly purchased electric vehicles. Tesla is second, with 1400 cars sold in the half-year, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 400 newly registered vehicles.
