Škoda: Sales of electric and combustion-engine cars in Czechia will reach parity in 2032

Sales of new electric cars in Czechia will reach parity with sales of cars powered by conventional combustion engines in 2032, around four years later than the sales curves are expected to cross in Europe. This is according to a new forecast by Škoda Auto, which it presented to journalists today at an event in the Austrian town of Leogang. The company aims for electric cars to account for 70 percent of its total sales in Europe by 2030. Around 220,000 new passenger cars will be sold in Czechia this year, with electric cars accounting for roughly three percent.

In addition to the Enyaq model range, Škoda plans to launch at least three more all-electric models by 2026. They are expected to include the compact Elroq SUV and a small A0-segment city car.

„From the start of production through the end of October this year, Škoda Auto has delivered 160,000 Enyaq electric cars to customers and received a total of 215,000 orders,“ Jan Hrbek from the company’s press office told journalists during a presentation of the updated Enyaq.

In the first nine months of this year, the automaker sold around 55,000 Enyaq electric cars, a year-on-year increase of more than 47 percent. „We have listened carefully to our customers, which is why in the new model year we are introducing the new Enyaq L&K trim level, even more powerful and efficient powertrains, and a new software version with an infotainment interface that has more features and is more intuitive than ever before,“ Martin Jahn, Škoda Auto Board Member for Sales and Marketing, said at today’s presentation.

The 2024 model year brings extensive technical upgrades to the Enyaq family and expands the portfolio with the new Laurin & Klement trim level. The Enyaq will get new motors made in Europe, with power increased by 15 to 60 kW to 210 to 250 kW. Battery management improvements and a new battery preheating function cut charging time by up to 22 percent. Charging from 10 to 80 percent now takes 28 minutes, and the maximum range has increased by 24 km to 570 km.
