Ukraine has recently been exporting significant volumes of electricity to Eastern Europe

Ukraine has been exporting significant volumes of electricity to Eastern Europe in recent weeks, supporting its revenues as the Ukrainian economy grapples with the effects of Russia’s military invasion. Reuters reports. Today, electricity exports from Ukraine are expected to reach their highest level since the start of the year, thanks to relatively warm weather, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
Ukraine began exporting electricity shortly before it became the target of Russia’s military invasion in February 2022. As a result, it temporarily suspended exports because of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure and the occupation of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Last April, however, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko announced the resumption of surplus electricity exports to European countries.
On Sunday, electricity exports from Ukraine to Eastern Europe amounted to 12.200 megawatt-hours (MWh). Today, exports to Poland, Hungary, Romania, Moldova and Slovakia are expected to reach up to 13.264 MWh, according to the Ministry of Energy.
