GasNet modernizes strategic handover station in Děhylov, boosting gas supply reliability in Czechia's northern Moravia

GasNet, the largest gas distributor in the Czech Republic, has successfully completed a major modernization of the Děhylov delivery and pressure-regulating station in the Opava region. It is a key hub in the region’s gas infrastructure. The investment of more than 80 million crowns has strengthened the long-term stability of gas supplies to northern Moravia. The modernization was carried out without interrupting supplies to end customers.

At Děhylov, GasNet takes delivery of gas from the transmission system operator, adjusts its pressure to the required levels and then distributes it through high-pressure pipelines to the Ostrava and Opava regions.

„Thanks to the modernization, we have significantly strengthened the reliability and security of gas supplies in the region. We completely renovated both the station’s mechanical equipment and its boiler room. We also installed new systems that enhance operational safety and enable our control centres to manage operations,“ explains Andrzej Martynek, CEO of GasNet.

Complex renovation carried out without disrupting gas supplies

The company also modernized related gas facilities and a smaller pressure-regulating station serving the municipality of Děhylov. GasNet ensured uninterrupted gas supplies to end customers throughout the work. Among other measures, the company secured reliable supplies through an exceptional technical solution: it commissioned a temporary pressure-regulating station specifically for the duration of the renovation.

GasNet plans to modernize 40 pressure-regulating stations this year

The GasNet Group has long invested systematically in the renewal and development of its gas infrastructure. Alongside key projects focused on modernizing trunk pipelines and local networks, the company plans to complete the modernization of 40 pressure-regulating stations this year. Major projects include the renovation of the Bartoušov delivery and pressure-regulating station in the Havlíčkův Brod region and the Štramberk station in the Nový Jičín region.

GasNet is also developing innovative solutions for pressure-regulating stations. Examples include the construction and testing of a more energy-independent pressure-regulating station in Ostrava and a containerized pressure-regulating station in Rosice u Chrasti. Through these projects, GasNet aims to improve its flexibility in building stations and regulating gas pressure.

Gas consumption is rising

Investment in gas infrastructure is going hand in hand with growing interest in gas among households, businesses and industrial companies.

„Last year, we distributed 63,3 TWh of energy across the GasNet distribution area, up 7 percent year on year. We also connected 84 new consumption points in the large and medium-sized customer segments, almost a third more than in the previous year. In the coming decades, the gas sector will play a key role in reducing emissions and will be increasingly intertwined with the operation of the electricity system. By 2030 alone, we expect gas consumption to rise by a further 11 to 17 TWh as solid fuels are replaced,“ concludes Andrzej Martynek on behalf of the GasNet Group.
