Czech ministry launches information website on construction of new Dukovany nuclear units

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO) has launched a new information website, dukovany.gov.cz, presenting the construction of new nuclear units at Dukovany. The website is intended for the general public and companies, offering information on the project, its benefits and its impacts on the region. It also provides companies with guidance on how to register as qualified suppliers for the project. The MPO announced this today. The website is expected to be updated throughout the project.

"The completion of Dukovany is the contract of the century and a key project for strengthening our energy security and self-sufficiency. The new website provides not only basic facts, but also answers to questions we receive from citizens and companies. I take it as a matter of course that the state must be transparent and comprehensible in such a major project," said Industry and Trade Minister Lukáš Vlček (STAN).

The website makes it possible to find all key information on the construction schedule, the individual phases of the project and the reasons for the build. It also describes the project's benefits for the regions, including impacts on employment, transport and public infrastructure. The site also contains a separate section for citizens, particularly those in areas affected by the power plant expansion, where they can find information on how construction will affect their daily lives, based on data from a socioeconomic study prepared by KPMG. There is also a separate section for companies.

"This is a pilot version of the website. After the government approves the overall communication strategy, we will prepare new features in cooperation with the Ministry for Regional Development, which we would like to include, for example, an interactive map with a plan of related investments such as new roads, bypasses or housing," Vlček noted.

The construction of new nuclear units in Czechia is expected to be the country's largest-ever contract. At current prices, the cost of building two reactors at Dukovany amounts to 407 billion crowns. Construction will be overseen by Korean company KHNP, which won last year's tender. Geological surveys of the site are currently continuing.
