Sweden commissions biomass power plant with Czech turbine set

On Thursday, the Swedish Värtan power plant commenced operations. In addition to electricity, it will also supply heat to nearly 200 thousand local households. Czech engineering company Doosan Škoda Power also made a significant contribution to the project, supplying key components for the plant, including the turbine and turbogenerator.

The new power plant, which burns exclusively biomass , is a joint project of the Fortum Group and the City of Stockholm. Plzeň-based Doosan Škoda Power supplied the turbine hall equipment for the CHP unit, including a steam turbine and turbogenerator with an electrical capacity of 154 MW and thermal capacity of 200 MW.

In addition to installing and commissioning the equipment, the company also supplied the turbine set control system, regeneration system, heaters for district heating water and steam piping in the turbine hall. “We are proud to be part of this pioneering project,” said Margit Petříčková of Doosan Škoda Power, who attended the plant’s launch.
