Gas turbine queue lengthens as manufacturing capacity set to rise significantly by 2030

Global gas turbine manufacturers are expanding their plants, but demand driven by data centres, the replacement of older facilities and demand for new dispatchable capacity remains exceptionally strong. For Czechia and Germany, this means a risk that approved mechanisms supporting new dispatchable resources will create investment incentives but will not in themselves ensure the timely physical delivery of equipment.

Global gas turbine manufacturing capacity is expected, according to BloombergNEF, to rise from 67 GW in 2025 to 102 GW per year in 2030, an increase of more than half. The manufacturing expansion is taking place primarily at existing plants, rather than through the construction of new factories.

However, the market remains highly concentrated. GE Vernova, Siemens Energy and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries currently control around 66 % of global manufacturing capacity, and their share could rise to approximately 70 % by 2030. The trio is set to supply 28 GW of the total 35 GW of new manufacturing capacity added by the end of the decade.
