Czech Moravská Třebová delays discussion of plan to build four wind turbines

The leadership of Moravská Třebová in the Svitavy district will not yet reconsider the plan to build four wind turbines below the Hřebeč ridge. The investor, S&M, has not yet resolved property-rights arrangements with landowners or obtained the necessary approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority, the town hall said on its website. In February, Moravská Třebová councillors postponed their decision on the construction of the wind turbines, requesting, among other things, a noise study from the company.

"On the one hand, we are aware of the benefits associated with energy generation from renewable sources and the potential future benefits arising from community energy, but on the other hand, we cannot decide on something for which we lack absolutely essential information. Resolving these matters may still take some time, but all of these are crucial factors without which the whole situation cannot be assessed responsibly," said Mayor Pavel Charvát (ODS).

The town's opinion on the plan has been postponed at least for this year.

The wind turbines should not stand on the ridge, but on the slope below it towards Moravská Třebová. Each turbine should have a capacity of seven megawatts (MW), with a height including the rotor blades of 250 metres. For allowing the wind turbines to operate, the town would receive money for its budget. The investor offered CZK 1.2 million for each turbine.

S&M CZ Jevíčko operates several wind farms in the Svitavy and Ústí nad Orlicí districts. For example, it built the most powerful turbine to date near Žipotín, a local part of the municipality of Gruna in the Svitavy district, with an installed capacity of 4.2 MW. It is planning another wind farm northeast of Moravská Třebová, with a total installed capacity of 42 MW.
