ŠKO-ENERGO lays foundation stone for modernization of Czech heating plant in Mladá Boleslav

“As an independent company, ŠKO-ENERGO has been a reliable energy supplier to Škoda Auto and the city of Mladá Boleslav for almost 30 years, and it is now entering a new phase. The modernization is an important milestone in the transition to decarbonization, which we have embarked on together with our parent company, Škoda Auto,” said Tomáš Kubín, managing director of ŠKO-ENERGO.
The modernization of the ŠKO-ENERGO heating plant will require a total investment of 180 million euros, of which 87 million euros will be funded by the Modernisation Fund of the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic.
“From 2024 to 2027, two existing fluidized-bed boilers, K80 and K90, will be retrofitted, and a completely new fluidized-bed boiler, K20, will be built. Large-capacity silos for storing the wood chips and a sorting facility will also be built on the site. In addition, equipment will be installed to unload and transport the wood chips to the boilers, and the railway siding will be extended,” added Milan Poddaný, project manager, describing the modernization works.

This project represents one of the largest investments in renewable energy sources in the Czech Republic.
