A turbine from Plzeň will serve at a combined-cycle power plant in the Dominican Republic

Plzeň-based Doosan Škoda Power will supply a 100 MW steam turbine for the fourth unit of a combined-cycle power plant in the Dominican Republic. The company will manufacture the geared unit for Spanish group Grupo TSK, the project’s general contractor, in the city of San Pedro de Macorís, which has a population of 200,000. The Plzeň-based engineering company is entering this market for the first time, but has already won contracts in Cuba, Martinique, Mexico and other Latin American countries, Natálie Sedláčková, media representative for Doosan in Plzeň, told CTK today. The company did not disclose the value of the contract.

“Grupo TSK is building the Energas IV project in the Dominican Republic for British company ENERGAS, which already owns and operates three combined-cycle units with a total capacity of 300 MW at the San Pedro de Macorís site. The fourth unit will increase the power plant’s capacity by a further 125 MW,” Sedláčková said.

According to her, the manufacturer designed a technical solution to meet the demanding conditions of an island grid and tropical location. The supply will also include a generator and other equipment essential for operation, she said.

According to Sedláčková, the contract underlined that Latin America is one of the company’s most successful markets.

Doosan in Plzeň, whose turbines operate in almost every country in the world, has supplied up to 90 percent of its new turbine-generator sets to dozens of foreign markets over the past three years. Its annual revenue is nearly five billion crowns. The engineering company, with more than a century of history and an almost 10 percent share of the global steam turbine market, manufactures and supplies equipment with capacities ranging from three to 1200 megawatts. Its equipment is used in combined-cycle, coal-fired, nuclear, cogeneration and solar power plants, as well as in biomass incinerators.
