Czech waste-to-energy plant worth billions to be built near Čeperka; municipality opposes it, construction to start next year

Elektrárny Opatovice has signed a contract to build a waste incineration plant in the cadastral area of the municipality of Čeperka in the Pardubice Region. The waste-to-energy facility will be built by the SESMETIC – ZEVO Opatovice consortium, comprising Slovenské energetické strojárne, I&C Energo and Metrostav CZ. The contract is worth almost 6.6 billion crowns, company spokesperson Hana Počtová said. The municipality of Čeperka has long opposed the project.
The incinerator is expected to process 150,000 tonnes of waste a year. The heat generated would be distributed through a district heating system. The project also includes electricity generation.
