Electricity prices expected to keep falling, Czech state again to cover all renewable support charges

Next year, the state will again take over all charges for supported energy sources (POZE). The government decided this today, Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (ANO) said at a press conference after the meeting. As this year, the state will pay around CZK 41 billion for them.

The state took over all POZE financing this year, adding CZK 17 billion to the state budget that consumers had originally been due to pay. In previous years, the payments were split between the state and consumers. The measure aims to reduce electricity prices for consumers, which fell by around ten percent for households this year.

"Thanks to this, we have already reduced electricity prices by ten percent this year and brought them into line with other countries around us. We have also reduced energy inflation, which has a positive impact on overall inflation," Havlíček said.

According to him, the measure also contributes to the stronger performance of the business sector.

POZE contributions are intended to support electricity generation from renewable sources and from high-efficiency combined heat and power generation. Since their introduction in 2006, more than CZK 500 billion has been paid out in total. Part of the subsidies was provided by the state, while consumers covered the rest through their electricity bills. The exception was 2023, when, due to the sharp rise in prices during the energy crisis, the government decided to exceptionally shift all payments to the state.
