Tesla recalls almost all its electric vehicles in the US for inspection

Electric vehicle maker Tesla is recalling 2.2 million vehicles in the United States for inspection, or almost all of its electric vehicles. The reason is that warning light text is too small, increasing the risk of an accident. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced this today.

This is Tesla’s largest recall to date, Reuters reported. Two months ago, Tesla had to inspect 2.03 million vehicles to install new safeguards in its advanced driver assistance system, Autopilot. Tesla is under scrutiny by the NHTSA over its driver assistance system, which is designed to allow vehicles to steer, accelerate and brake automatically within a lane.

The recall affects vehicles of various models, including the Model S, Model X, Model 3 from 2017 to 2023, the Model X and Cybertruck pickups. Tesla added that Cybertrucks currently in production will receive an update to fix the problem.

„Warning lights with smaller text may make safety-critical information on the dashboard harder to read, increasing the risk of an accident,“ the NHTSA said.

Tesla has begun issuing a free over-the-air software update, which does not require a physical connection, to fix the problem. It will increase the text size of the brake, parking system and ABS warning lights.
