Doosan Škoda Power to supply turbines to Orlen's heat plant in Płock, Poland, for CZK 3 billion

Doosan Škoda Power, a major global turbine manufacturer, will modernize two turbine-generator sets at a heat plant in Płock, Poland, for more than CZK 3 billion. The Plzeň-based machinery maker has signed a turnkey technology supply contract with Polish petrochemical group Orlen. The contract includes manufacturing, installation, commissioning and ten years of subsequent servicing. The project is scheduled for completion in 2029, Natálie Sedláčková, media representative for Doosan’s Plzeň plant, told the Czech News Agency today.

“The investment will be carried out under an EPC contract, which covers turnkey technology delivery from design through manufacturing, installation and commissioning to subsequent maintenance. The newly supplied turbine-generator sets and associated technology will be nine percent more energy-efficient than the original technology, ensuring more efficient electricity generation,” said Doosan project manager Tomáš Winkler.

The modernization of the cogeneration plant, which produces electricity and heat, will be divided into two phases to ensure continuity and safe operation. “The modernization will begin with turbine-generator set TG-4, followed by TG-5 once it is commissioned. The long-term service contract runs for ten years for each turbine-generator set,” Sedláčková said.

The heat plant also operates TG-7, a 70 MW turbine-generator set manufactured and commissioned by Doosan Škoda Power in 2017.

According to production chief Michal Skovajsa, turbines made by the Plzeň-based Doosan operate in 63 countries worldwide, and the company exports up to 90 percent of its output. Its annual sales reach nearly CZK 5 billion. The machinery maker, with a tradition spanning more than a century and an almost one-tenth share of the global steam turbine market, manufactures and supplies equipment with capacities ranging from three to 1200 megawatts. It is used in combined-cycle gas, coal, nuclear, cogeneration and solar power plants, as well as biomass incineration plants. “We have an annual production capacity of 40 turbine casings,” he added.
